The Genesis of the Flight Confidence Course
The Flight Confidence Course was the brainchild of Nelson Aviation College Training Manager, Alan White. Through conversations with friends and people in the community, he recognized a need, particularly among business travellers, to address anxieties surrounding flying.
Alan envisioned using Nelson Aviation College's advanced simulator and experienced instructors to help individuals develop their confidence and overcome their fear. To bring this vision to life, Nelson Aviation College partnered with Jaron Steffens of Mind+Health solutions, a highly qualified mental skills coach. Through this collaboration, the comprehensive Flight Confidence Course was developed.
Our State-of-the-Art Simulator
A key component of the Flight Confidence Course is the use of our Boeing 737-800 simulator, developed by Pacific Simulators. This fixed-base, fully enclosed simulator replicates the experience of flying a commercial jet airliner with remarkable accuracy. The immersive environment, complete with a 220-degree wrap-around visual system, allows participants to experience the sights and sounds of flight in a safe and controlled setting.
Understanding Flight Anxiety

Common symptoms include a racing heart, sweating, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. These anxieties can significantly impact individuals' lives, leading them to avoid travel, miss out on opportunities, and experience significant distress.
